I created an application a few years ago that will run fine on 4.1.2. Should there be a problem with 4.4.2?

It should. There are two breaking changes in Android 4.4:
- You cannot abort sms messages (or delete).
- You can only access one specific folder on the sd card (real sd card not the internal storage that is named external storage).
