best encryption for network traffic. advice please

Hello,

I'm looking for a decent encryption for the data I'm sending over my gprs connection, but I'm fairly new to this. What's commonly used ? Do these algorithms add a lot of extra data to your traffic ?

What type of data are you sending? How will you read it on the other side?

For the moment I'm sending ascii text codes/data . I just want to make sure that nobody can intercept or corrupt the packages . I've got a delphi server app that communicates with my android apps , so I'll have to implement the encryption/decryption there as well.

AES algorithm is commonly used.
You can use the Encryption library for that.
