Android Question Button Shapes

Okay I'm new to this but been writing embedded software for 30+ years. I hate the square/rectangle buttons when using designer. Is there any other way to create a different shape (ie: oval, circle). I need the button down and button up functions. Thanks to all that reply.

Instead of buttons use Panels and make them behave as buttons (placing graphics with transparent backgrounds)

Just create the pictures you need with transparent backgrounds and add them to a panel, then, just handle the PANEL events.

Thanks again. Can you recommend any software for creating the graphics? As I stated earlier, my expertise is in embedded and have very little experience in dealing with HMI's of sorts.

You can just download free button images. Google "free images buttons". Then load the images into Image Views as I did to make the keyboards in this custom keyboard example.
