Android Question CameraEx question

When I run the CameraEx example everything works fine. If I run the visual designer and do absolutely nothing it runs fine. If I run the visual designer and do absolutely nothing except Save the example loses all buttons except Take Picture button upon reorientation either way. Is there some setting in the Visual designer I am missing?

Use "Save As..." instead of just "Save" and clock ok to replace the old bal file.

it works fine on a Samsung phone; I have a moto 2e 4glte; when I minimize it and tap it back it works until a rotation; when it first runs it shows only the top left button.
