iOS Question content mode

hello,
i have many images, some are portrait, some landscape.
is there a way of controlling the content mode centre to show more of the image?
Having it the same way that the native camera roll shows it would be great - it shows as much of the centre of the image as possible, and allows all thumbnail images to be squares.

if not, any tips on how to start to program this efficiently would be great!

Set the ImageView ContentMode to MODE_FIT. FIT is similar to FILL however it preserves the original image ratio.

Fit preserves the ratio of the taken image, but then presents them different sizes on screen - landscape and portrait images appear to fill a square a different amount
eg there is white space to the sides of portrait images.
I tried all 4 modes, and I'd like a cross between center and fill
