Android Question Control equipment over internet

I am working to communicate PLC omron with Android, now over the intranet (wifi) I can do everything, controlling relai, control and monitoring Data Memory , But I want to make it also can be used over the internet.
Has anyone done any similar project like that, it may be with arduino or plc ? it would be great to get help, how to start it ?? , thanks
