The measurement is in DP.
Density-independent pixels: an abstract unit that is based on the physical density of the screen. These units are relative to a 160 dpi (dots per inch) screen, on which 1 dp is roughly equal to 1 px. Just curious, these dpi values are stored in display hardware by display manufactories or in OS ROM somewhere put by mobile phone makers? Are these values obtained by these API reliable on every phone?
