I have received backing, thank you backers!

Just at this moment you can back my project here but .... http://tinyurl.com/m3v8mq8

I may close the ability to donate because, if you think about it, I can go into any business and show them my prototype SitFirst.com device and they want it.

Why do I call it a prototype?

I am using a Raspberry Pi with small breadboards

Redundancy = can use text messages, the internet, the internet WiFi at the business where SitFirst.com is installed.

Practice and experience tells me that it would be very rare that an order doesn't go through.

This is such a cool idea

... Are you intending on being the 'lead' in this project... ?

The idea holds merit, solves timing issues and does not replace the old fashioned waitress serving you in my project outline.

Everyone has a phone, any business jumping on this idea would immediately generate a buzz in their respective industry... and the programming --- oh god the programming behind it would be just bonkers!!!

PM me the NDA...

Bad news peeps. Despite belief in this brilliant idea and my enthusiasm for it I am just not financially setup for such an enterprise at the moment :(

I've been talking to my accountant who has essentially told me to "get a job, save up some money and maybe work on the prototypes in your spare time then re-visit it in a year or two when you have saved enough money for a decent go at it."

I had to return the donations :(

Seems that belief and enthusiasm alone will not keep the wolves from the door.

But on a lighter note, It does go to show that there are nice people out there willing to help and it makes me want to help too so I'll let you all know when I've saved up some money and can give it a real go.

rbsoft that is an amazing restaurant :) but perhaps a bit scary :)

Aaron, BeatTheQ is the closest to my idea, not quite the same, I still think mine has a few redeeming features that no-one else has but as far as the customer is concerned, very similar to my idea.

You are correct of course that there is the whole American Waitress/Waiter culture where you have some nice young person come up and take care of you which we don't have so much in the UK, another factor to take account of. Many of our large pubs in England are bar-service only, even for food, though you do get the food delivered to your table, this is the issue that my idea should address.
