Android Question Double byte characters

I need to be able to create an array or a list of double byte characters for a variety of foreign languages.
What is the library or method that might allow this?
(I already am able to display the text in an edit text view using the typeface and the appropriate ttf unicode font)

A standard String can hold any valid Unicode character.

I have read these files before and had no problem.
For some reason, the file I was reading was stored as UCS- Big Endian... and should have been UTF8 (no BOM).
It is reading fine now.
