EditText language

I have several edittext controls within my app. They have the INPUT_TYPE_TEXT set and the English keyboard appears. When I type English words, Korean characters are suggested. What setting(s) need to be set to have it use English (or the same language) for both the keyboard and the word suggestions and ultimately, the entered result?

The user can control the input method locale and phone locale.
It can be changed by choosing (from the home screen) Menu - Settings - Locale And Text - Select Locale and in the keyboard settings.
