English! "Dangling"

In English "Dangling" could mean "barely suspended" as in "Dangling by a thread".

In this context I would think the error means it came across the "*" character and did not know what to do with it.

"Dangling" - means hanging lazily from something precariously - "penzoloni precariamente (Google)" - like in manhood just dangling !! ;)

In this context I suspect it means it doesn't know what to apply the "*" meta-character to, a reference similar to "A dangling modifier" in sentence structure.

And yes, I agree it could be phrased a bit more clearly.

Just for "information" (otherwise I wouldn't have written in "Chit Chat"), I wanted to use a "custom" separator to compose a string which would then be splitted into parts using Regex.Split.

I had "*** sep ***" set as separator (if I remember correctly, because now I no longer use special characters like "*").

or, ...Astrid (femine gender of Asterix) was barely suspended and left me dangling......I have a photo to support this but @Erel will shout at me if I post it. . . . . .

I used to get shouted at school for not grasping the finer details and meaning of :

Dangling Participle
a participle intended to modify a noun which is not actually present in the text.

probably because it was as funny as someone using Boob in a sentence : You boobed..... / what a boob / who boobed etc..

(Sorry too much Two and Half Men shows and Jake jokes.)
