Well, I've been rummaging around the B4A forums, so thought I'd give a bit of background...
I've been in to computers for quite some time now! Ever since the ZX Spectrum was one of _the_ computers to have. I went through the same process that many went through and coded stuff and entered programs from magazines and books and adjusted them.
I completed a Computer Systems degree, a few years ago now. Learning about OOP, SQL, Analysis and Design, RISC, Compiler technology and so on.
I started working for a big blue company on their graduate scheme and then went freelance.
Most of my recent experience has been using a 4GL, currently called AllFusion:Gen. It produces large scale systems, client server and batch. It can interface with Oracle DBs or DB/2. It can quite happily run on Unix boxes or mainframes - when properly compiled of course! In addition to this, I'm quite happy to delve in to SQL (Oracle), PL/SQL, unix shell scripts and most other things.
I started to look at developing Applications and worked out that I'd lost most of my low level skills!! C and C++ were gone! I looked at WinDev's offering, but that seemed a little overkill for most of what I wanted to do and a PC crashing halfway through a project didn't help. Whilst I was looking around during the period that the PC was being fixed a friend came across Basic4PPC and then the rest is history. I wanted to develop a few apps and then focussed on one that I thought would be achievable, to make sure it got to market, as opposed to being too complicated and suffering from feature creep.
B4A has been great, I was going to install the trial version for 1 month before purchasing, but couldn't wait that long!! It also helped having the 20% off discount that was tweeted. I then purchased the Enterprise version and haven't looked back since. It's been a bit of a challenge here and there, but most of the time it's been possible to work out what the errors or mistakes have been and rectify them. It works and makes sense!! I think it's taken about 6 weeks to get my App to the point where it is ready for the market. Just a few minor tweaks here and there and then it will be publicly released and marketed!
Aside from software I also enjoy Motorsport (hence the app!) and skiing.
