Share My Creation Graphic Art

The most successful Market apps almost always have very nice graphic art background and foreground images. Animation just takes this a step further. Some of the work the guys here are doing is no exception - very slick graphic art.

My question is "What are folks doing to get this neat artwork generated?" Do you hire a graphic artist or are you all gifted artists as well as gifted programmers?

I'd like to know that too :)

I am no good at graphic art so for my icons and sometimes things like buttons I use transparent pngs that are available free for personal and commercial use from a number of websites. Maybe some others do something similar?

There are a lot of brilliant programmers here, I must admit.

Hi,

My first post at this great forum!

I would say, for great art try buying some from stock art sites like graphicriver. Cheap dollar-art that sometimes looks great.

Also be sure to have Inkscape installed as it is a good freeware editor aswell as the Gimp (also availible for windows)

Be sure to do some online tuturials for the software aswell - it really pays off.

The mix/match in layers to get the art you need. :)

I hope this information was of some help..

Hey everyone,

You just have to look and find the right place. :D
I'm in a small but close community with a lot of professional and hobby artists who make your art for free!
Everyone is free to join, but please read the rules.

Nation Of Design
and then go to board index, register and start requesting. :)

also it would be best to introduce yourself

Thanks!

Graphics must be selfmade... Everyone who can write an android app.. can use an graphic prog..

i think the most people here made simple graphics because they share the project and not sell it.

That is why I respect and admire Mac and iPhone programmers. They don't mess around with homemade graphics as much as developers in other platforms. And that extends to their web sites as well.

I can't do graphics :(

My artistic talents are literary, so I have to enlist outside help for graphics. I respect those who like you can do your own graphics.

I can use gimp and edit just not create new art myself.

My opinion is that unless you are a graphic designer it won't matter how nice the graphics are that you find on the web because you just do not have the knowledge to use them in a pleasing manner. In fact what you may think looks like nice clip art just isn't. Developers just do not have the critical eye and aesthetic value that designers have. You see it all the time on websites that have a hodgepodge of clip art and just look amateurish. If you are serious about publishing your app then just get outside help with the GUI.

Mac and iPhone developers realize this and they tend to use designers more than those writing for other platforms.

I agree with CidTek.

While I might know how to "mess around" with graphic-tools or use free image-art, I still don't have the "sense" to say whether it's nice/suitable or not. Working with graphics, I guess is like with art (either you have the talent to draw and paint or you don't) or like with music (being able to play an instrument, have the feeling for the rhytm). If you don't have the talent or the sense, you can probably still obtain decent result but they won't be outstanding as the work of someone who knows what he is doing.

I guess there must be a reason why there are so many specialisations within programming such graphic-, web-, music-, flash-, database- and general-programmers and so forth.
