Sorry, but how can I explain what happened?
Forget multidex for a second
I opened the project with v12 and it did not compile, I was recommended to add multidex: true and it then compiled, without it it failed
Mind you I did not change a bit only v12
So what other thing can cause it?
This is a very 'old' app working for years like charm, just upgraded to v12 and this all happened

I don't mind to remove multidex but then compiling fails

I do add it the won't update

This is the issue

Zeev please start a new thread. Explain what happened after you added multidex. You wrote about versions. Explain what you are talking about. There are many different components with many versions.
But this is exactly what I did and asked in this thread
I am totally lost here

By the way - few same thing happened to 2 different apps that I had to use multidex
The 3rd app did not require that and update with no issue
These two did not update (I tried to update directly using the apk not through Google store)

So is it only a local issue and it will update if uploaded to the store?
