B4J Question How to resolve variable "blah blah blah" is never assigned?

Hi everyone. I am totaly new to B4J and B4X. After reading Getting Started booklet, I decided to practice by creating simple form that has textfields and a button using internal designer. Now there is this "varable never assigned" error that I have failed to resolve. Attached herewith is a screenshot of my work.
Your generous guidance will be highly appriciated.

Delete these variables and add them in B4XMainPage module.

My learning project is Simple Math Calculator.
I am now stuck on how to covert string to integer like " 5 + 7" so that i get an ineger answer of 12?
I read about casting but I got lost on how to use it
