Android Question java.lang.RuntimeException Google play store crash Report

Hello,

one of my apps in the play store gets some crash reports, but i have no idea where to start looking for an issue

This is the report (there are several, identical reports) and they only happen on Anrdoid 6.0 and 7.0

For me this looks like something in my "trayservice" whats handling a notification is throwing the error, but what error?

Im getting this reports since i added:

Return true to allow the OS default exceptions handler to handle the uncaught exception.
Sub Application_Error (Error As Exception, StackTrace As String) As Boolean
    Return True
End Sub

into the trayservice, before that, no reports. Also no other feedback from users.

Any hint on where i should start looking?

Application_Error is only relevant in the starter service. It will not do anything in other services.

How are you starting this service?

There are 3 possibilities it could get started:

1. with the gui in a button_Click sub:

StartService(TrayService)

2. inside the Service_Start it restarts itself the next day:

StartServiceAt("", date,False)

3. it is defined as start sticky and start at boot:

#Region  Service Attributes
    #StartAtBoot: True
    #StartCommandReturnValue: android.app.Service.START_STICKY

Are you calling StopService somewhere?

StopService is not called, there is no way to stop it besides uninstalling.

Google Play is not reporting the full error message here. All that I can say is that there is an error in Service_Start (or one of the called subs). You can add a Try / Catch block as the first solution.
