EditText has a stripe

Hi all,

I am new to Basic4Android and I was hoping someone could help out.

I am using EditText views and reducing their height from 60 to 40

When i do this they are displayed with a grey and white stripe instead of solid white. I wonder is there any way of avoiding this problem?

Can you post a screenshot? EditText uses a 9-patch image as its background. It is not solid white.

Thanks for the fast reply.

I understand now. So the grey stripe is actually the UI effect and as I reduce the size of the control the images are getting closer togther and making it look like a grey-white-grey stripe.

It's not going to be a problem for me but just out of interest for the distant future; are these images replacable? Could I potentially substitute alternate images?

Yes, you can set the Drawable property.

I had noticed this early on too and I think anything less than 50 or 52 did it on mine. I'd guess Android uses a weird 9 Patch with too much margin area. All my apps now use my View Manager Class that I made my own 9 Patch for that looks like Windows 9x Textboxes. The class automatically sizes to fit the font size, but when I use a size 5 font the view is 21 pixels tall and still shows right, so Android's 9 Patch needs some work.
