Android Question serial communication with Rpi over usb

Hello.
I hope this isn't a dumb question but is it possible to communicate with a raspberry pi via USB directly i.e. without usb to serial adapters? I want to do things like read a gps position and retrieve sms messages. I know it can be done with bluetooth but I just wondered iof there is a way via USB

I don't think that it is possible. You will need an adapter such as this one: https://www.adafruit.com/products/954
