lemonisdead Well-Known Member Licensed User Longtime User Nov 12, 2014 #1 Hello, I would like to upgrade an used Acer Aspire 5315 and replace its CPU which is an Intel Celeron 550 (one core). Of course, I have googled about and found some information but I can not find the told compatible models online. So my question is : how could I find the type of CPU currently sold and which could be compatible, please ? Here is a link at the Intel's site about the existing CPU. Many thanks Edit: I have found it has a socket P and I can not find that socket in the sold products Last edited: Nov 12, 2014

thedesolatesoul Expert Licensed User Longtime User Nov 12, 2014 #4 Which motherboard/chipset do you have?
lemonisdead Well-Known Member Licensed User Longtime User Nov 12, 2014 #5 It seems to be or PM965 or GM965
lemonisdead Well-Known Member Licensed User Longtime User Nov 12, 2014 #6 The master problem with that model is that they are lots of information about (and seems to have lots of different models sold with different characteristics).

thedesolatesoul Expert Licensed User Longtime User Nov 12, 2014 #7 It seems to be a GM965 from these links: http://www.cpu-upgrade.com/mb-Intel_(chipsets)/PM965_Express.html http://www.cpu-upgrade.com/mb-Intel_(chipsets)/GM965_Express.html You can probably go for an X9000 now, only where to find the processor. Atleast it will be cheaper if you find it.

thedesolatesoul Expert Licensed User Longtime User Nov 12, 2014 #9 No problem. But I still suggest to find the exact motherboard model and check with the datasheet of the motherboard.

lemonisdead Well-Known Member Licensed User Longtime User Nov 12, 2014 #10 Edit: the x9000 is not compatible because it is a Penryn XE. The latest Bios for the Acer Aspire 5315 (v1.43) limits the compatibility to Merom & Penryn only. I'll go with an used T8100 (on Ebay)

thedesolatesoul Expert Licensed User Longtime User Nov 12, 2014 #11 I see. Btw, I had no idea how cheap these chips go on eBay. I wish I could find a way to use these.
lemonisdead Well-Known Member Licensed User Longtime User Nov 12, 2014 #12 I've found mine $15 + shipping to Portugal ;-)
thedesolatesoul Expert Licensed User Longtime User Nov 12, 2014 #13 Wow...thats an awesome price! I am sure it must have been atleast $150 on Release. Probably more.
