Android Question TouchScreen Test

Hi.
I need to test the functionality of the touchscreen. (Sometime the touch on some machinery appear to be not working). My deside is to simulate a touch (at the startup of the program) and get the result code (position x y that will be note). If the result will be different what expected I will try to restart the system.
So, It is possible to programmatically simulate the touch on a precise area?

Depending on the point of failure it is unlikely that a simulated touch will allow you to find such problems.

If the app is frozen then you can detect it in other ways.
