Hello all,

Since I noticed that the downloads/active users increased remarkable after I added Dutch to the listing details languages I hope we can help each other with translations.

I can translate various languages into Dutch.

The text that I would like to be translated into Dansk, Catalan, Euskara, Russian, Polski, Slovenscina, Ukranian, Frysk, Eesti, and Cesky is:

--------------------------------
Bird names translator

This app contains all bird names that have been seen in the western part of Europe and shows the selected bird name in the languages that you selected.

The app has been tested for various devices. Please be so kind to mail the developer in case the layout doesn't appear correct on your device (the brand and type is all we need). Thank you in advance.
Spreadsheets with your language and scientific names are very welcome and will be added to this app.

We work together with Observado.org and use the official IOC World Bird List (Worldbirdnames.org)

You can easily change the search language and the display languages and there are various ways to select or search for a bird's name.

Always handy when you are a birding guide, on holidays or when you get in contact with foreign bird watchers.

--------------------------------------
Done: German, Japanese, French, Spanish, Italian, Portugese, Norwegian, Bulgarian, Swedish and Dutch. Thanks to some fantastic people on this forum.

I know it's a lot to ask but when we can help each other to gain more users :D

Thank you in advance,
Helen.

Hi Helen,
Here are the German and French translations:

--------------------------------

--------------------------------

Do intend to have your application also multilanguage, or is it only in English ?

Best regards.

Hi Klaus,

Du bist fabelhaft :icon_clap:

And, yes, I want and should have this app multi language.
Actually I am thinking about a database with the various languages for headers, labels, help file ,etc.

What would you suggest?

I will add your translations in the "market" and, of course, let you know the results. Keeping my fingers crossed that French and German users will increase the same way the dutchies did.

Best regards,
Helen.

Hi Helen,

I wouldn't use a database because it is more difficult to add a new language.
In my multilanguage programs I used simple text files. The programs had a certain number of predefined possible languages the user could choose from, but only if the text file for that language was available. Translating one file to another language and saving it with the langage reference was all a user had to do to add a new language. In the program I loaded the texts into a string array and used this one to display the texts in the selected language.

Well, but thats just my opinion.

Best regards.

Hi Klaus,

My internet went down Monday evening; that's one of the advantages when you live in the middle of nowhere;)
So my excuses for replying soooo late.

I will follow your advice and use a text file.

Thank you and very best regards,
Helen.

Hi Helen,
From the middle of nowhere on this island - here the Japanese translation:

Just to reserve my glass of Merlot ;)

Cheers
Robert

Thanks a lot, Helen, the wounds of the tsunami are gradually healing.

Mostly working on astronomy apps, although I do love animals, especially my dog. Don't have the patience for passionate bird watching, but there are often fortunate sightings which require no patience at all. Whilst fishing without any catch, I envy the fishing abilities of sea birds.:BangHead:

Best success with your bird species database and thanks for reserving the Spanish Merlot

Cheers
Robert

Portuguese version:
--------------------------------

--------------------------------------

@Helen.

Some words have no direct translation, like Bird Watcher, so we, Portuguese, trend to use the english word.

I think your Post is a very important one, and if possible, Erel should create a sub forum in the share your creations sub-forum, just for this purpose..so each developer could request translations...

Hi Paulo,

Thank you very much for the Português! Nice to know that Portugal uses some english words, the dutch do the same.

Good to hear that you also like a translation sub forum. Hope that Erel will add it.

Best regards,
Helen.

Hi all,

After adding French and German to the Market listing languages I got some more French users (and Swiss :) ), Germany no increase.
Also got a great review in French and 5 stars. So I'm happy with this result.

Hope to see a difference in Portugal and Japan as well, with Paulo's and Robert's translations. I will let you know the results and if other B4A'rs can translate - thank you in advance.
Of course I will help with all your translations in Dutch (small country/market - sorry).
Translate.google does work ok (quite understandable) but it's not perfect yet.

Helen.

Ps. My bird names translator is in Lifestyle and the statistics on the market show that South Korea is the greatest market for Lifestyle apps, 31.5 percent !¿! That amazes me.

L'applicazione è stata testata su diversi apparecchi.

Hi Paulo,

The other languages do help :sign0098: French and German are really improving and even Portuguese entered the top 10 now.

Best regards,
Helen.

Very Happy to ear that!

I Found your app, seems my market is following my device language and Not my Locale (?)
The app is quite interesting, and simple to use...
If I may be o bold, I have 2 or 3 suggestions:
Have the user be prompt for the translation laguage upon first run (ever)
When a "matching" bird name is selected, how dificult would it be to, if available, to show a thumbnail image that could be clicked to enlarge.(?)

Hi Helen.

I've found 'Ucello traduttore particolare' and I didn't understand what did it mean. I suggest you to change it into ' Traduttore di nomi di uccelli'.

Ciao.Massimo
