1- During installing, ignore all warnings and go ahead with the installations.
2- To run VB, don't use the desktop icon, instead, click on All Programs
3- From then menu click on Visual Studio
4- From the drop-down menu, (right-click) on VB6
5- From the pop-up menu click on Run As Administrator.

Don't install it, its not really whorth the trouble.

For windows 7 and 8, its better to have a "portable" edition.

You can find a VB 6 sp6 in a single EXE about 100 Mb

The other option, is to use a Virtual Machine with XP
