Three suggestions for simplifying moving around in the Visual Designer.
1. Change so mouse wheel zoom require control pressed for zooming.
2. Mouse scroll wheel (with no control) should simply pan up/down.
3. If the Abstract Designer is active, hold spacebar to be able to pan around using mouse left button.
These all line up with how things typically work in graphical applications.
