What's your MS Word.exe Path?

Hello. I'm programming an app that checks to see if MS Word is installed. I know that older versions of Word have an install path of:


c:\program files\microsoft office\office1x\winword.exe


But I'm not sure if newer versions follow the same installation path form. If you're reading this and you have MS Word, could you please reply and specify what version of Word you have installed and its installation path?

Windows: Vista Home Basic.

Path: c:\program files\microsoft office\office11\winword.exe

Version: Microsoft Office Word 2003 (11.8307.8221) SP3

Strange thing though, Windows Explorer's 'search' didn't find winword.exe
I had to find it myself :sign0148:

Another possible approach is to look in the registry.
Look for .doc under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT and see which application is registered to run it.
The value stored is a key which Windows somehow uses to find the application path.
On my computer the default value shows Word.Document.8 and I have Office 2003.

If ... you have MS Word, could you please reply and specify what version of Word you have installed and its installation path?

I have M$ Works which includes M$ Word (under XP) at: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\WINWORD.EXE

Thanks for all your replies. I'll look into that registry method and see if I can implement it.
