Referring to my previous post (communicating vessels) ...

just as Human has fewer and fewer muscles because he makes machines work more and more (even the car), I fear that he will always be less intelligent, delegating reasoning to machines.
There will also be fewer jobs for humans; this should lead to all working at most 20 hours per week for the same salary, but it is not and will not be so.

A.I. is absolutetly overrated. Mostly they show a robot with a screen showing a funny face on a fare which can do some basic moves with sensors and speech ("Oh, it can talk so it MUST be intelligent"). Another example: The ISS space station. I've seen a report about a (as I call it "tablet in a sphere" http://www.airbus.com/newsroom/press-releases/en/2018/02/hello--i-am-cimon-.html). Some guy tried to explain what it can do exactly. The answer was "Yes, it's intelligent". Again.... WHAT DOES IT DO? Blaaah.... Another "tablet with a funny face"

For me still just another piece of SW with some algorithms. A.I. is more, much more. Same with autonomus cars. Just some sensors with algorithms. Nice but we're far away from A.I. Let some drones fly? Nice (really) but this has nothing to to with A.I.

You're right of course. We should first state the definition of A.I.. It can mean a lot of things to a lot of people. To techies like ourselves it may mean a sentient machine like HAL 9000. To others it could be as simple as a robot vacuum cleaner or something larger like an autonomous car. Or how about the spybots like Amazon Echo Google Home that responds to your voice commands.

All of them collect data on us, including the vacuum cleaner, and sends the data back to a central server for analysis. Do we really need them? Or are they being thrust upon us whether we want them or not. One thing you can be assured of. Many of the A.I devices will have a dual purpose that won't be disclosed to the general population. Be careful when you let one into your home.
