Android Question Billing Subscriptions

I have an app that users have payed for.
Due to more work updating it i want to change to a billing subscription.

Can this be done with just updating the app? What happens then for users who already payed for the app?
Or do i have to upload a new app to Google Play?

So instead of a one time payment i want to change so that all users of the app has to pay a small amount to use the app for 1year at a time.

Technically there is no relation between in app purchases and the app price.

You can update the app and add features that require IAP. You can also make it free.
The users might not be happy with such change.

Ok tnx. I think the users understand why. Anyhow i'll think on how to best migrate to a solution with free and subscription option.
