Android Question Can Global or Process Variables Be Used In a Layout?

Is it possible to use a Process or Global Variable in a Layout Designer Script if the Layout gets loaded after the Variable has been set to a value?

I'd like to do specific things in the Designer Script depending on whether the App is running on a smartphone or on a tablet.

If not, is there ANY way to communicate information between the program code and a Layout Designer Script?
