Thanks Manfred for the push in the right direction, I have now updated to Java 11 but I'm getting the following error on compile:

Convert byte code - optimized dex. Error
PARSE ERROR:
unsupported class file version 55.0
...while parsing com/dropbox/core/AccessErrorException.class
1 error; aborting

Yes.

However, for anyone else having a similar issue, I dropped back to dropbox-core-sdk-5.0.0 from dropbox-sdk-java-5.2.0 and it now compiles fine in both Java 8 and 11.

Everything is working fine again, files upload and download and all is well with the world.

I Hope Dropbox will upload their patch soon. For me, it is not very comfortable to work on the previous version. But thanks for the tip!
