In the IDE, F12 jumps to an identifier declaration, but is there a key sequence to jump back to where you were?

Yes. Alt + left arrow takes you to the previous location, Alt + right takes you forward.

Note that you don't need to use F12. You can Ctrl + Click on the element.

I see it now. The back/forward navigation is also in the toolbar and shows the hotkey assignment.
