Help with Gesture capability of phone

Not all phones can process multitouch gestures.
I have a Samsung 500 that is on Android 2.2, but multitouch is not possible

Google maps knows about it and shows a +/- pair of buttons to let the user zoom.

How does Google know of the phones Gesture capability?

Is that returned from an available B4A library?

The +/- pair of buttons in Google maps has nothing to do with multitouch nor with gestures. These are simply two 'standard' buttons. If you put two buttons side by side you get the same effet.

The +/- buttons do not appear on my SGS2, which is multi-touch gesture (zoom) capable.

Therefore I assume there is a flag somewhere that can be queried about multi touch capability.
