Android Question Highlighting capability for users

Is it possible for the "user" to select a part of the visible text and highlight it ? (Like what is done in pdf files with related software, for example)
It should be noted that the text is given as a .text file and direct access to the program

The user can select a single section of text with a regular EditText. If you like the selection mark to persist then you will need to do some non-trivial work.
