Android Question How to modify a command by inserting an external string

Hi All,

I've been trying to do this with all sorts of string literals, but a command is not a string so it doesn't work.

If one could use something like DIM cmd_parameter as (its not a string or int. what is it)

then one could do page&cmd_parameter...

Does b4x have macros

Define p page

The B4X version of macros is "code snippets". Search for that term - as a start try this link.

There are no macros as you think in b4x, but you can achieve this function using duck typing.

you might be able to simulate it by putting the pages in a map (that can hold objects), then use the byte to determine which item in map is retrieved, then cast to b4xpage and you should have access to any field in it.

What is the layout/format/protocol of the packets that you are receiving? What is in the first and seconds bytes, and the following bytes?

You are probably about to discover that the _NewData event doesn't always return chunks of data that are whole packets. Sometimes a packet will be spread across multiple received chunks, and sometimes a received chunk will be bytes from different packets (usually the end of one packet and the start of the next packet).

(unless you are working in asyncstreams prefix mode, which is unlikely because it is usually only possible if you are implementing both sides)

or buffer(2) as in:

      n = buffer(2) -48

As I said earlier - put the pages in a map 1,2,3,4,5 etc as the keys with the actual pages reference as the data
use the byte to determine the key you want
then use callsub/callsub2 to call the set/get for the data in the page

    Dim dataByte As Int = 2 ' from your data source
    ' read the map using the key and execute the sub newData in page2
    CallSub2(pageMap.Get(dataByte), "newData", "fred") ' write some data
    ' read the map using the key 
    Log( CallSub(pageMap.Get(dataByte), "showData")) ' read the data back

You just need to add the pages to the map - then it knows the object it's going to for the sub
