I need a local server in my house, I'll use this server as a web server with MySQL. My doubts are:

1. Should I use Ubunto or Windows Server 2012 Std Edition ( I'd prefer Ubunto) ?
2. What kind of hardware specs should I looking for ?

This server will serve only to start my business, so I don't need the best of the best. I would get a more powerful server later. Of course, the cheapest solution should be fine for me.

I'm thinking to buy a DELL server, but I'm not sure if this can work.

The question is, what use will this server have? if it's just to tinker around you don't need a server, just install a WebServer software (there are tons of them on the interwebz) and you're set, but, if we are talking production, then I would suggest a hosted service.

This is for a production but I can't use a hosted server because my apps are using RDC. In this moment, I'm using a server of a friend but now I need my own server.

Running "home based servers" are problematic, because you have only 1 server, which means, it will choke with requests (bandwidth), and in the case of failure, say bye-bye to your business, like I mentioned above, if you are doing this for business then look for a business solution.

Ok, any suggestion to find a business solution where I can install the RDC server ?
