Looking for a developer

Hi All

I need serious help. I employed someone to write an app for me and after much to and fro and me having paid him, he's decided to stop with the development. I suspect it's because he simply could not do the work that he said he could do. I am obtaining the source code that he has written so far and I need someone who is willing to complete the work for me. If there is anyone out there that is willing to have a look and able to help me with completion, please let me know urgently.

I am desperate.

Thank you

What does the app do?
What is working and what not?
Also note if you are searching for an Android or iOS developer

It is not in my nature to place derogatory remarks or publicly wash dirty laundry - so admin if this is inappropriate - please delete this post.

I am the developer referred to here in post#1 and may I now publicly state that I am (in my opinion) quiet capable of developing the said app, but I am incapable of working with continuously changing scopes of the project, continuously changing graphics and continuous threats of litigation at all hours of the day AND night !!

May I also categorically state that I have not been paid as stated in post#1. I obtained this work via a third party, who unfortunately gave my phone number to this client. I have worked virtually 24/7 on this app - I have Whats-app messages that have arrived at 01h40 in the morning demanding immediate feed back - and this on a Sunday !!

The app is an interface for the BANTING DIET called CarbWise. It is currently nearing finalization on B4A and still requires the conversion to B4X. I have also written a full backend to support this app - this I have done in phpRunner v8. The app currently has 48 modules in it and several more designer screens. It uses Firebase Authentication to login and then several Wizards to collect data and work out a ratio of what you must eat each day. It also has messaging to remind you of your birthday and how much water you should drink as well as full set of Johan's Graphs to indicate progress on weight, health and BMI, amongst other libraries that i have used.

For a successful app You will still need to complete:

1. Daily Meal plans (ground work done)
2. Monthly subscription frame work (ZoHo Subscriptions) https://www.zoho.com/subscriptions/ or any you wish to use
3. Collection of medical data to backend server to be used for research
4. You will also need to move the backend systems (MySQL) to an appropriate server as I am closing the current one down
5. Convert the source code to the b4i app

I am prepared to GIVE this source and graphics (as gesture of goodwill to the community - as I have still not donated for the libraries I have used) to the person willing to take on this project.

WARNING
If you take on this project then please make sure you have the following in place:

1. You have a paid deposit of at least 50% of the costs in your account as a developer - not via third party.
2. Scope of the project - state clearly - any changes will be charged for at an per hour rate or part thereof (I recommend $60 per hour)
3. A very clear contract of who is responsible for what and the extent of that responsibility.
4. No contact - other than formal chosen channels such as e-mail only.

Who ever wishes to take on this project - I am willing to assist them with guidance as to what I have done and to ensure completion of the project. My code is reasonably well commented.

Regards to my BoB's (Band of Brothers !!)

PM me if you wish to get more details. I'll gladly help.

Unfortunately I recently exprerienced a similar behavior from someone located in Rome. No clear definition of the project, new features added in the course of it, weeks of absolute silence and finally an offer to pay half the agreed on price to obtain the source developed so far (95% of the last project's revision).
My reply? No reply at all. I keep my source and they look for a way to justify their unprofessional attitude to their customer.

That's why I liked @BillMeyer post.

In my opinion your post is absolutely appropriate for beginners because it describes an often met situation clearly and frankly. I am sorry you spent so much time on that project. Not professional at all from the client's part...

The problem in most cases is that a customer never tells what he wants from the start and keeps adding things from the moment you started on an agreed price
and also has no clue what it all takes to make his "simple app".

everything looks simple interface wise but it doesn't mean it is like that codewise.

I do agree with you guys 100%. IMO it is often the same story: the client don't think about to make a
  • feasibility study
  • proof of concept
  • a concept in general
mostly he/she hopes, that all this will be included in the programming of the project. we had some projects which are running against a wall and at the end the client and the programmer is frustrated....

I am neither a developer (professional) nor a client..
That does not mean that I have no opinion or common sense!
I have had lots of (good?) Ideas for apps, that I never started, why? Because, even being able to foresee the technical difficulties code wise, I know I will most probably change the "how it should behave" and "how it should look" 10 times over. 9 of them will most certainly require a "from zero" restart of the code part...
So what I am trying to say is, i can understand that, in a non code trained mind, a "simple" app is really simple, and that adding features is just that... Adding to the existing ones...
The fortunate ones that can code, know that adding an extra feature sometimes involve rethinking a few other features so that they can still work together.
The situation at hand reminds me an episode of The Simpsons, where Homer is give the opportunity to create his dream car... At the end, he ends up with a pile of junk who's only resemblance to a car is that it has wheels, a motor and driving wheel... But none at the correct place!

Had the same issues with costumer several times so i decided to reduce as much as i can on making apps for others.

For them every app is "simple" and in the end you will find out that working few extra hours on your daily work would make you more money then taking that job.

I prefer to make apps for my self at this moment and i recommend everyone before you take a job make everything clear from the beginning (dont be shy)! And take deposit 50% minimum!
As @BillMeyer already said.

There should be thread where all good and bad experience with making jobs for other user are shared so we could decide better if we would like to take that job from a specific user or not.

I am afraid erel will not allow it since false experience could be written and it would be hard to proofe.

So what i can recommend is to list all users that already did a job for others and before u take a job you could ask that user via pm if he recommend u to work with that specific user or not without making everything public. And because u would ask someone that u trust you should get a more accurate answer.

I did some jobs so u may ask me (of course only if u trust me :p)

I do not think it is necessary, it is enough to get paid in advance, at least in part.

Personally I have had only one customer, I can consider him a friend, even though he is several thousand kilometers away. A wonderful person. In addition, he certainly is much better than my current client, as I said ... me :)
