We'll just have to wait to see what actually happends, but he talks a good talk about the acquisition though.

Don't forget that M$ dah their own competitor to GitHub, GitLab etc, it was called CodePlex and M$ ran it for years before they finally closed it down last year as it was not that sucesucces, thus the acquisition of GitHub.

I'm more concerned with Microsoft being in bed with the NSA and the fact that now other Governments have the ability to push Microsoft into censoring Repos they don't like.

There's very little stopping anyone from running their own Git server just like GitLab/GitHub did, if they're that concerned about it. I have one running for the companies' developers / collaborators and even one for my own personal projects and those that collaborate with me on those. Those are private, yes, but if I (or anyone) felt compelled to offer a GitHub alternative, then they can. No-one is forcing developers to use GitHub. I'm sure if there are enough concerns about policy changes, privacy, censorship, etc. then developers will migrate to other platforms ... just as they have for many years now. It's nothing new.

Don't like the new owners? Don't use it. Make one yourself. It's not rocket surgery.

You mean Brain Science? <grin>

I started out in the health field (after an initial brief stint in the tech industry while in high school) and one of my medical school professors would always do that word-play … Rocket Science -> Rocket Surgery and Brain Surgery -> Brain Science. When asked about it, he'd say "Life is too short not to play with peoples' heads". We weren't too sure how to take that as he really WAS a brain surgeon.
