Android Question [SOLVED] How to apply Material design to SlidingMenu?

There is a nice example of a very simple navigation drawer here:

https://www.b4x.com/android/forum/threads/appcompat-with-toolbar-minimal-example.79896/#post-505911

However, it doesn't behave like a Material drawer. I have noticed two differences:
  1. It pushes away the page beneath
  2. It doesn't darken the page beneath

This is what it looks like with the linked example:

And this is what it looks like in Gmail (as an example):

Please note that I'm not talking about the actual contents of the drawer. Just how it behaves and interacts with its surroundings.

I was unable to find a way to make this drawer behave more like a Material drawer. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to do that?

(I am aware that there are several Material Drawers in the forum, but this question is just for this specific drawer, so no need to recommend changing to something else.)

Hey really Sandman?
You make it sound like that's a big using the word 'fix', it's like that by design. There is an issue with it but it's got nothing to do with its look and feel.

Suggestions: You've already mentioned material drawer.

Hi Peter. I, as most people in this forum, don't have English as our mother tongue, and sometimes things are a little off because nuances. I wasn't meaning to imply there was a bug, but I've edited my post to clarify so you can better understand what I meant.
