Android Question Using VideoView

Hi

Is there a tutorial for using VideoView?

I am writing an app to play short video clips stored locally (Not streamed).

Hi,

Tried the code from the documentation example and got an error message from the emulator "cannot play this file".

The file was a playable mp4 file lasting about 30 seconds.

Haven't been able to get this feature to work.

Dont use the Android Emulator. It is slow, unreliable..
Use a VM (for ex Genymotion) or a real Device

The native VideoView is very picky about which files it can play. I've had some MP4 files which I encoded myself not work and others work fine. Here's the official word for what is supported...

I tried installing directly to the phone, but it still gives the same error message. The mp4 file plays ok in media player(windows) though.

If I transfer the mp4 file to my phone it plays beautifully!

I though VideoView simply makes use of the built in video player for the phone.
