P Paul Edwards Member Licensed User Longtime User Sep 9, 2015 #3 Hi, Tried the code from the documentation example and got an error message from the emulator "cannot play this file". The file was a playable mp4 file lasting about 30 seconds. Haven't been able to get this feature to work. Upvote 0

The native VideoView is very picky about which files it can play. I've had some MP4 files which I encoded myself not work and others work fine. Here's the official word for what is supported... http://developer.android.com/guide/appendix/media-formats.html Upvote 0

The mp4 file plays ok in media player(windows) though. Upvote 0

I though VideoView simply makes use of the built in video player for the phone. Upvote 0
