Android Question What exactly is a theme?

I'm trying to work out if using themes would help me. I want to present more professional looking layouts. For example I would like to improve the appearance of my edittexts (so they look like those in the SQLEXAMPLE). When I apply the holo.light the only difference I see is a change in the background colour. Does a theme not set defaults for views?

The theme affects all views. Make sure that the following parameter is set in the manifest editopr: android:targetSdkVersion="14"

I've set android:targetSdkVersion="14". and set the theme to holo.light. What effect should this have on the background of edittexts? I would like to see a contrast between the edittext and the overall background. Similar to the edittexts in the SQLExample.

Have you checked the SQLExample code? It should be simple to reproduce it in your app.
