Your reference with from Apache PDFBbox site is to a new version 3.0.0-alpha2 release. The drawbacks are that maybe it is not stable and maybe it will not work with B4X without modification.
My preference is not to use an Alpha version and certainly not an x.0 version, but to wait for a more stable version. This combination works under B4J: B4J PDF software works with this JAR version
