I have several emulators that have been working well. I know they are slower than a real device but they are often useful. Suddenly, they don't want to work anymore. Why?
If I click and hold on the blue bar in the "Starting emulator for AVD 'Std Emulator'" screen, then at the end of starting the emulator there is the message: "Failed to create Contect0x3005. emulator: WARNING: Could not initialize OpenglES emulation, using software render".
The emulator comes up on the screen and after a few second, the following message comes up:
"emulator-arm.exe has encountered a problem and has to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. Please tell Microsoft about the problem.
Once I click on Okay the message and the emulator disappear.
I have tried making a new emulator but the same thing happens.

You have probably already read my recommendation which is to avoid using the emulator at all. Use a real device or use one of the Android virtual machines (genymotion for example).
