hi guys

My win10 upgrade seems to be stuck at the very begining saying "working on it" endlessly.
Since the download was made to my T100 keyboard hhd(built-in), I fear that either the upgrader cant really find the update file(s) or the files are corrupted....

How can I re-initializate the process??

for some reason some upgrades might take hours on some machines while it takes less than an hour on a different machine of the same brand and type.

if it is really stuck rebooting it might continue the upgrade progress when you're lucky, if not you might need to do a clean install.

I hope you took an image of your disk first?

the problem is, it doesnt even seem to start!!

the win10 upgrade notice said:

expect a 10sec prep of your machine
review the licence agreement
chose when to upgrade

I hit continue and after a breef hdd "i'm doing something" noise... nothing happens...
the system is still and always usable... so i dont get it!

My upgrade took 8 hours to complete. Be patient, it will be alright. :)

Core i7 - 8GB RAM

You can bypass the automatic update process and start your own manual update process using the Media Creation Tool.
As long as you run it's 'upgrade this PC' from your working installation of Windows 8 then you'll get your free upgrade.

I found that using the "get help" feature, download it and run it... it asked if I allowed it to make chnages to my drive, so i said yes... nothing happend after that.

I also read in a few posts that my case is not an isolated one... several people are getting stuck at "working on it"... they advise to go through the Windows Update site and try to find the update there... working on it now (pun intented)

I believe there is an option to 'Monitor my progress' or something like that.

I've found that when you click on that it takes you to the Windows Update screen.
It seems to force the download and it is much, much faster.

I've updated on three machines and all three only took a few hours after going into Windows Update.

I went the long route and reseted my T100 to factory defaults. now I just have to wait and check win update from time to time

I downloaded the Windows 10 iso from Microsoft and burn it on dvd. So i can update all pc without additional download. It's the better (and faster for more pc's) way imho.

I told people to wait 6 months. too much bugs popping up because they only test their own software on it.

so you got out of the loop "already" ? :)

I had a spare win7 desktop and had a look at win10 aswell.
Here's my story

regged win 7
booted with dvd
didn't accept my 7 key so skipped it
clean install
works fine but couldn't reg as it expects a Win10 key

reinstalled win 7
booted with dvd to update but it told me to boot win and run it there
setup didn't start as the win7 was 32 bit and the 10 64

reinstalled win 7 64 bit
booted with dvd to update but it told me to boot win and run it there
setup works but I couldn't skip the key so again stuck
now it appears that the win7 is dutch, the media english and it won't upgrade different locals so the skip button was hidden

downloaded win10 english
booted win7 and ran setup
took upgrade
now I was able to skip the key and it installed/upgraded

so if you ever plan to upgrade with a downloaded ISO make sure the bits version (32/64) and local (english/dutch/whatever) matches
your current setup or you won't be able to upgrade unless you have a valid win 10 key.

:)
