You can also compress it to gzip format with CompressedStreams (RandomAccessFile library).

Thanks Erel, I tried a search for zip and it returned "Sorry - no matches..." Am I doing something wrong in the search?

I entered zip in the search field just below the Basic4Android logo and get lots of answers.
The first one is what you are looking for !

Thanks - I used "searched this forum" to try and find something - that returned no matches! Wonder why that would not yield any results?

The first reply is precisely the library not to use. It's an abandoned project with an annoying bug reported by users. Fortunately, it exists another library, with more features: Archiver
