Android Tutorial Debugging your app on real phone without USB cable or B4A bridge

Using a USB Cable for debugging apps is faster and easier than using B4A bridge. But as you know, being always connected to the USB port will decrease the battery life. With this instruction, you should use the USB port only once, and then you will get rid of that. Remember that your phone and your computer must use the same network.

First, save these commands as a batch file, say connect.bat:

REM Connecting
C:\Android\platform-tools\adb.exe tcpip 5555
C:\Android\platform-tools\adb.exe connect x.x.x.x:5555
pause

Find the right address of the "adb.exe" on your computer and replace it. Also, you must put your phone's IP4 address instead of x.x.x.x

Now, do these steps each time you turn on the computer and decide to connect:
1. Connect the mobile to the computer using a USB cable.
2. Run the above batch file. if everything is OK, you will see this message: "connected to x.x.x.x:5555"
3. Disconnect the USB cable
4. Clean the project with Ctrl+P (or Tools->Clean project)
Now you can start running the program; no need for a USB cable.

You can also save these two batch files for disconnecting and for getting the list of connected devices.

REM Disonnecting
C:\Android\platform-tools\adb.exe disconnect 192.168.2.16:5555
pause

REM List of Connected Devices
C:\Android\platform-tools\adb.exe devices
pause

Hi Mehrzad.
USB Debugging should be ON. If debugging is not available using a USB cable connection, it won't be available with this method.

You have to run adb tcp 555 on your Android device (using a local terminal(, not on your PC and not always work.
The easiest way is:
- open Wireless debugging and activate it (you must do this step each time, as wireless debugging is automatically disabled when you put the device in standby.)
- pair your phone with your PC (only at first run): check the port and PIN and from pc enter

adb pair ipaddress:port

and enter the pin shown in the Wireless Debuuging screen.
- then from the PC use

adb connect ipaddress:port

You will find the port in Wireless Debugging screen on your device. This port is changing each time you start Wireless Debugging,

This is a bit complicated to use, but more importantly, turning Wireless Debugging is very risky and not recommended. That's why Android regularly disables it.

I suppose you are debugging in your own, supervised LAN, not over the Internet and you are using a test device, not your daily driver.

Great to have that ability. But I think at same time that USB current is usually low, hence connecting phone for debugging seems to not effect the battery life much, means in a few years of doing so I hardly feel battery health reduction

The discussion is about mobile phone batteries. Charging and using your phone at the same time can shorten the life of your phone's battery. It's usually recommended not to use your phone while it's charging, although newer phones are somewhat more resistant to this effect.
