Android Question A question about an old Android app

Hello everyone,

This is my first post here, and I'm neither a developer nor a programmer.

I'm using an old Android app (Vu+ Player 2.2, from December 11, 2014) that was offered for Vu+ receivers some time ago.
I've been using the app ever since. Now I have a problem that I can't seem to solve, even after several attempts, to get the app to work.

To be more precise, I was able to get the app to run up to Android 14 via sideloading. From Android 16 onwards: no luck. And the number of devices with older Android versions where the app still works is dwindling.
I'm aware that current Android guidelines/restrictions (also for security reasons) don't allow the older apps to run.

After a long search online, I found the app's developer here in this forum.

It's moster67, who still has the app's graphic as his avatar in his profile on this forum.

With this post, I want to ask @moster67 if he's planning to update this app.

I know the app is old, but many users (like here) have asked for it.

Thank you very much in advance.

Good morning,

Thank you for your replies.

I (77 years old) tried to adapt this app to the current SDK using Android Studio. However, I've discovered that I have very little knowledge of the subject. It started with embedded graphics (.9.png), which Android hasn't supported for a long time. Gemini in Android Studio didn't help me either. That's why I asked in this forum.

I'm concerned that the programmer (Moster67) might not be happy about having his intellectual property modified. But the app is located here.

Thanks

Pascal

I don't understand what problem you're talking about, explain better

you are not a programmer or developer but you use android studio, curious!

The best thing to do is to contact him via email as I've already suggested.

Sorry. I obviously misunderstood something while reading various posts on the internet.

Yes. Even at my age, one should try to learn new things. Unfortunately, I failed when it came to Android apps.

I understand that. Unfortunately (I'm not very good at these things) I couldn't find an email address from Moster67. Therefore, I don't know how to contact him.

I'm sure you will be able, you managed to find the forum that @moster67 frequents, to use the forum straight away and also to use Android Studio, it's not easy at all. Finding the email on PayPal is child's play. Good luck

You could try opening a conversation with him through the forum. Click on the envelope icon (up on the top border, next to Search and Login) and select "Start a new Conversation".

Edit: Or maybe not. I was thinking that would notify @moster67 through email, but that only works for replies to forum posts, I think.

It seems that non-licensed users cannot use this feature
