a way to track how far I've gone?

In my taxi app I have a part of it that records the start and end of trips to work and back to home each shift.

The timer is working fine.

I am wondering is it possible to track the distance I go?

I'd like to try different routes to ascertain which is best.

You should get the current coordinates every x seconds and calculate the distance from the current point to the previous one. BY accumulating all the points you will get the full distance.
