Android Question actionbar / menu update

Hi
I already develop some applications with Ahactionbar library.
Now for new application i would use a more updated library.
I have try to follow the 4 tutorials on material design, but more examples don't start, no log, no compiler error.
I dont understand why?
I can use also a previous version with a classic layout, sliding menu on left, some icon on toolbar.

What is the classic library for main layout?
