ampersands and apostrophes causing xml paster to choke

I have found that the xml parser does not like any apostrophes or ampersands in the data content of an xml string. It causes a java runtime error "not well formed (invalid token)" - is there any way around this?

It's not choking the "paster", just the "parser"

These characters should be escaped. Otherwise it is not a valid XML.
