Any way to stop overriding?

For years I have stored files in the Bin folder where the "temp.ap_ " file is created. I upgraded to 2.52 and was shocked to find that all my files in the Bin folder have been deleted. I know, I know. It was dumb to store things in the Bin folder, but I never had a problem until now. Is there a way to stop this overriding.

You can set the files to be read-only. However it is better to save them in a different place.
