Android Question Apply shadow to a view (edittext)

Hi everyone, i was wondering if there is a way to apply a shadow (like elevation) to a view. At the moment i need to apply it on a edittext, is it possible?

I dont know direct answer to that... What I will do is put the edittext in a panel and apply the elevation to the panel

I tried with an elevation of 5, but i don't see nothing

EditText placed in a panel with the elevation set to 5

Uhm yes, ok.. i set the panel color to transparent because i stylize the edittext using .background and colordrawable
as you can see it does not show up like so:
